About Susan

Susan grew up in a military family, moving from Kansas around the country until settling in eastern North Carolina. As a first-generation college student, she worked her way through college with the help of a scholarship from the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, part-time campus jobs, summer jobs, and the support of her parents.

Susan graduated from ECU with a B.S. in Biology and completed post-graduate courses at the University of Maryland, College Park, and the USDA Graduate School, Washington, D.C. She pursued a career as a botanist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in seed testing and related services.

Susan is a lay minister and past president of the Pacesetters senior fellowship at All Saints Episcopal Church in Gastonia. She previously served as branch secretary of the Gaston County NAACP and an advocacy volunteer for AARP.

Susan has remained committed to Democratic values, serving in leadership roles with the party and representing Senior Democrats at the county and district level.

Susan is committed to serving the common good and striving for the best interests of the 

people of Gaston County.
